Being a Custom Home Builder, and Remodeler I get to see first hand, trends in housing. One of the biggest trend in housing, new and old is Flexibility. Many new designs have Flex Spaces, rooms that offer multiple uses for multiple family members.
Multiple Purpose Hobby Room
As you can see above, you can see a Laundry Room that can serve as a work station, a communication center (chalk board), project center. In fact, I have a very similar room located right next to my Kitchen, and during the Holidays we convert the Flex Space into a bar for our guests.

See the use of Pottery Barn storage shelves, and our custom chalk board. This room functions as a true flex space. Offering utility, organization, and elegance all in one room.
